There has been a lot of activity going on in the workshop in “Ginger’s Attic”. I have been getting to all those projects that have been stored in my workshop for a while. I wasn’t allowing myself to buy any new pieces till I got those done. My husband made a bench out of a twin headboard that I had painted and distressed. A cabinet that we use in the dessert room in our restaurant got an update with some fresh paint. An old rocker and chair got a makeover and my newest project is a full size bed (not sure whether it will become a bench or not). I have to get all of these projects out of the way because a workshop has been scheduled for Sat., March 7. Here is a sneak peak of two of the projects. The before and after pictures will be posted on the website soon.

Collection of Vintage Salt and Pepper Shakers
We have acquired a large collection of vintage salt and pepper shakers from 50’s and earlier. They came from an estate in Oakdale, Louisiana. So much variety- animals, fruits and vegetables, characters, vintage items such as pot belly stoves and outhouses. They are made from a variety of materials such as wood, porcelain, plastic, glass, and china. There is something for every collector and are priced very reasonably.
Vintage Mersman Coffee table with removable glass tray
Before pics of coffee table – You can see how the veneer on top was damaged and had to be removed. It was also in need of new screws and the glass on the tray had to be replaced.
After removing the veneer the top was a little rough so I decided to decoupage an assortment of lace. Then I placed a vintage crocheted doily on top. The doily can be removed and other items could be used instead such as vintage pictures or postcards. I am leaving that up to the buyer. The glass tray sets on top of the table and can be removed to be used as a tray or it could be glued on permanently. This unique coffee table is priced at $125.
Merry Christmas from “Ginger’s Attic”
“Ginger’s Attic” will be open just 3 more days before Christmas – Sun., Mon., and Tues. from 11 – 2. We have been receiving a lot of vintage items from an estate in North Louisiana and our shelves are stocked full. We also have lots of furniture pieces. Come by and get that unique gift for that special someone. Avoid the crowds, come enjoy a meal of home cooking at Country kitchen, and browse our shop. We hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and have many blessings in 2015.

Featured project: Dining Table and 4 cane back chairs
I purchased this table and 4 chairs at This That & More Flea Market. The designs on the top of the chairs and on the legs of both the chairs and the table were my favorite part when I bought them. However I was wishing for less grooves when I was doing the sanding because it was exhausting. But I do love the way they came out. The flower type fabric goes well with the flower design on the chair. I found the fabric at Joann’s and wasn’t sure I liked it till the whole project was complete. This set was in my shop for less than a week. My sister and her husband just moved to my hometown and decided to buy it for their kitchen/dining area. I’ll post what it looks like in her kitchen soon. I am so glad I get to still enjoy it when I go to my sister’s after putting so much work into it.
Featured Project of the Week: 6 Chairs – painted & distressed & reupholstered
I bought 6 chairs from “This That & More Flea Market” to use for our restaurant. I was just going to change out the seats and leave the wood alone because they weren’t in bad shape. I kept thinking… Do I really want to redo 6 chairs? – I have so many other projects I have to work on right now for the shop. But as I cleaned them up I kept noticing the wood designs and detail and just couldn’t pass up painting & distressing them. This collage shows some of the process they went through.
A big thanks to my husband who made completely new boards for the seats so I could throw away the old ones and not have to fool with the disintegrating foam and thousands of staples. The finished chairs are ready now for Country Kitchen customers to sit and enjoy a hearty meal! I just have to decide which table to put them around.
Painting and Distressing Workshop – Sat., Sept 27
I have a couple of openings for this week’s workshop. Facebook message me or email me at Gingersatticla@gmail.com if you would like to come. It is from 9am – 12:30. See website for details.
Featured Project of the Week: Half wall table with claw foot table leg in front
This wall table had some scratches and just wasn’t getting noticed in the shop. Now with its light color and distressing, the claw foot table leg in the front is very attractive and now it will be noticed. This elegant piece is priced at $160.
Featured Project of the Week – 1946 Monopoly Game Framed
My husband and I bought a 1946 Monopoly game when we were antiquing in Colorado. I love vintage games and am planning on designating an area in our restaurant for displaying games especially since I have a few from my childhood that I can’t seem to part with. I had the shadow box type frame already from an auction a long time ago which worked perfectly. All I had to do was take it apart to take the previous art work out, glue the Monopoly board down and all of the pieces. Since I’ve never been a big monopoly player I enlisted my sister to help me lay out the pieces to where it looked like a game in progress. I called my brother to tell him about this project and to reminisce about the time I played monopoly with him and his friends and they teased me about being put in jail and made me cry. (I think that is why I never really liked the game) The last thing I did was paint the frame the 1st coat black and then the 2nd coat red. So it has a two tone effect – black & red- once I distressed it. Then my husband attached the frame to the back board with his nail gun. Now I just have to get the wall ready that I am going to display this on which includes taking off wallpaper- Ugh! But I am motivated now that I have this 1st game project done.
Featured Project of the week: Shadow Box Table
I bought this glass table at a garage sale for a bargain price. It was in need of work and not very attractive. When I got it home the idea popped into my head of making it into a shadow box table. My husband put to use his great woodworking skills and as you can see in the 2nd picture it now has a place to display items. I had to sand some of the rough areas especially the bottom shelf which had some kind of material glued to it. I painted the whole piece a new color I wanted to try – Sherwin Williams Sea Salt using my chalk paint recipe. Next I painted some parts in grey chalk paint, then distressed and waxed it. Notice how some of the sea salt color shows after I distressed it. I put shells in it for now and am going to keep it in my workshop for a while as a show piece. I have always loved shadow box tables and hope to make more of these in the future. I am blessed to have a husband who likes woodworking. We make a great team!
